City as our Campus: Experiencing the Local Community through Field Studies
The city has become our campus, allowing us to create in our first four months an expansive program of over fifty unique Field Studies from Junior Kindergarten through 6th grade. Through this pioneering learning initiative, students have closely examined their local community while developing the skills necessary to see and understand the larger world.
Students Widen Their Horizons at New Downtown School
When GEMS World Academy (GWA) - Chicago opened its doors on September 3, the faculty and staff weren’t the only ones to welcome junior kindergarten through sixth grade students to school. Within the first week, GWA - Chicago’s students were already meeting and collaborating with their counterparts throughout the GEMS international network of schools, thanks to video conferencing technology in every classroom.
GWA's First Graders: Making Meaningful Connections with Switzerland
Since opening its doors just a month ago, GEMS World Academy-Chicago has already proven to be a premier U.S. school in pioneering a global education. Today, GWA-Chicago showcased an innovative classroom demonstration called “A Connected Learning Project” in an international teleconference between first graders at GWA-Chicago and GWA-Etoy, Switzerland.
