GEMS World Academy, through a partnership with Carnegie Learning, is one of two schools in the country piloting an innovative online course titled “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence.”
The course, which is being presented to our eighth-graders, provides vital computational thinking skills as it shows students how to program an AI to become unbeatable at Tic-Tac-Toe. Piloting the program also reinforces the design-thinking approach at GEMS, as our students will be providing feedback to a company about a product it has created.
“We are participating in a real-word design process,” said Dr. Gregory Wilson, director of the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning at GEMS.
“I think AI classes will become mandatory soon, so our students are able to shape the future, in a way,” Dr. Wilson said. “I believe our students will come away with a greater knowledge of, and interest in, both AI and coding.”
