Mark Zuckerberg, the U.S. Constitution and rap music each played a part in an innovative unit recently completed by the eighth-graders at GEMS World Academy Chicago.
The unit, called “A More Perfect Union,” started with a close reading of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. It ended with live rap battles in which students delivered rhymes that debated or commented on current social issues.
GEMS World Academy Chicago students explore a world language every day. As is the case throughout the GEMS academic program, our Spanish, French and Mandarin classes revolve around student inquiry, the creative use of technology and a transdisciplinary mindset.

These are some of the questions third-graders at GEMS World Academy Chicago considered as part of their Written and Oral Expression unit, a dynamic exploration of the nature of stories and storytelling.
GEMS World Academy Chicago students, teachers and administrators celebrated the ongoing construction of our new Upper School building with an energetic "Topping Off" ceremony, during which a steel beam students had signed earlier in the week was lifted to the top of the building.
GEMS World Academy Chicago, in partnership with the Chicago chapter of the United Nations Association, hosted a dinner and awards presentation that honored local individuals and organizations for trying to improve the world by promoting the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
